7 Fresh Kids Yoga Games Using Props (That Kids Go Wild For)

If you’ve been teaching kids yoga for a while, you already know the classics.
Animal yoga. Freeze & pose. Yoga stories.

They work — but sometimes you want something new, something that feels a little more “wow” without turning your class into chaos.

These are some of our favourite NEW kids yoga games at Little Yogis Academy® — especially for teachers who love using props, challenges, and playful structure.

1. Balance Builder Challenge (Using Yoga Blocks)

This is a quietly brilliant game that builds focus fast.

What you need:

  • Yoga blocks (or books / foam blocks) Click here for the ones we buy!

How it works:
Each child gets a block. The challenge is to balance the block on different body parts while holding a yoga pose.

Examples:

  • Tree Pose + block on the head

  • Warrior II + block on the palm

  • Tabletop + block on the back

Level it up:
Add a slow countdown or breathing cue while they balance.

Why it’s magic:

  • Kids are fully engaged

  • Builds core strength + focus

  • Feels like a game, not an exercise

2. Yoga Target Toss (Blocks + Poly Spots)

Movement meets problem-solving.

What you need:

How it works:
Place spots around the room. Each spot has a pose assigned to it.

Children:

  1. Gently toss a yoga block toward a spot

  2. Whatever spot it lands closest to = the pose the class does

Teacher tip:
Make the tossing soft and controlled — this isn’t about distance.

Why kids love it:

  • Surprise element

  • Choice without overwhelm

  • Turns poses into a game mechanic

3. The Wobble Test (Mindful Balance Under Pressure)

This one feels like a science experiment for the body.

What you need:

How it works:
Kids choose a balance pose. You slowly add a “wobble challenge”:

  • Close one eye

  • Lift a heel

  • Add a block to the arm

  • Slow inhale, slow exhale

The goal is not perfection — it’s noticing what helps them stay steady.

Reflection question:
“What helped your body balance?”

Why it’s powerful:

  • Teaches self-awareness

  • Builds resilience

  • Introduces mindfulness naturally

4. Roll & Flow (Dice + Yoga Cards)

Perfect for kids who love unpredictability.

What you need:

How it works:
Each number on the dice corresponds to:

  • A pose

  • A number of breaths

  • A movement style (slow, strong, wiggly, tall)

Kids roll, then the class flows.

Bonus:
Let kids help assign what each number means.

5. Memory Flow (Yoga Meets Brain Power)

This one sneaks in executive functioning skills.

How it works:
Start with one pose.
Add a second.
Then a third.

Each round, kids must remember the entire sequence and repeat it in order.

Make it collaborative: Kids can suggest the next pose instead of you.

Why it works:

  • Builds memory

  • Encourages teamwork

  • Keeps older kids especially engaged

6. Balance Pathway (Dots + Imagination)

This feels like a mini obstacle course, but calm.

What you need:

How it works:
Lay dots in a path. Each dot has a rule:

  • One foot only

  • Balance + breathe

  • Add a twist

  • Hold for 3 breaths

Kids move slowly through the pathway like mindful explorers.

Theme it:

  • Crossing a river

  • Walking a rainbow bridge

  • Moving through space

👉 This pairs beautifully with our yoga dot sets: See yoga dot activities →

7. Pose Switch (Adapt & Adjust Game)

This teaches flexibility — literally and mentally.

How it works:
Kids hold a pose. You call out a switch:

  • “Change levels”

  • “Make it bigger”

  • “Make it calmer”

  • “Add a balance”

They adapt the same pose instead of starting over.

Why it’s special:

  • Encourages creativity

  • Builds body confidence

  • Teaches adaptation, not rigidity
